“Al Blake is an often unheralded Blues harp master who deserves to be considered in the top 10 greatest living players.” - Real Blues Magazine
"Al Blake's harmonica playing is of the highest order, as is his laid back yet affecting singing style." - Blues In London
"...he has that unique ability to write songs that sound as if they are lost treasures lifted from the archives of some of the blues' greats." - Blues In Britain Magazine
Al Blake was a founding member of the legendary Hollywood Fats Band. Their first album released in 1979 was the blueprint for modern era West Coast Blues and is widely considered around the world to be a landmark album of the genre.
Blake is World Class Blues musician, (vocals, harmonica, acoustic guitar, songwriter, producer) who has produced 3 superb CD projects for Delta Groove Music since 2004, two of these being nominated for prestigious Blues Foundation Awards: Soul Sanctuary, Best Comeback Album of the Year 2004; Hollywood Fats Band, Larger than Life, Best Historical Album of the Year 2007. (The other nominees in that category were John Lee Hooker, Freddy King, Otis Rush and Jr. Wells.) Over the last 10 years, Blake’s music has evolved to the status of legend.
Few Blues artists today can go back and faithfully preserve the sources of the music while adding brilliant splashes of modern themes. Blake is a rare bird in that category and he does it with complete authority! He is, without question, one of the best harmonica players working today, as well as a beautifully soulful vocalist and acoustic country blues guitar player. Blake is the real deal – one of a kind.
